Story

Tping began with a simple question: A place to gather my thoughts?

The name Tping comes from the phrase “toilet papering.”

Tping welcomes unfinished thoughts, sudden sparks, and ideas still in progress. Whether you’re a designer, writer, student, or thinker, Tping helps you think with your hands and visualize what was once invisible.

Inspired by the fleeting texture of thoughts, Tping is designed to feel like an endlessly unrolling sheet of paper—soft, open, and infinite. It captures your thinking process just as it is, encouraging you to explore raw ideas without judgment.

Tping is built on empathy and the belief that even discarded ideas have value. It’s not just a writing tool, but a space where you can start without knowing the destination. Through fast typing, timed sessions, and visual feedback, it guides users to shape, reflect on, and release their ideas.

Tping turns scattered thoughts into a creative rhythm. It’s more than a tool—it’s a symbol of movement, expression, and the quiet power of beginning. Together, we write forward.

What We Did

Idea Development (Extended)
While brainstorming project ideas, we thought what if we created something more fun based on the concept itself?
So we began by asking ourselves: When do we need ideas? In what situations? Where do we usually think?
Starting from these questions, we decided to create a playful app that not only supports people in our field who often need ideas, but also brings them a bit of humor and fun along the way.
UX Research
To validate our concept, we conducted 1-on-1 interviews with 15 designers—like us—who regularly need to generate ideas. In addition, we collected 30 survey responses.
The questions focused on stress related to idea generation and how people approach thinking creatively. From this research, we learned that the majority of both interviewees and survey respondents find it very difficult to come up with ideas, and they expressed a strong desire for a tool that helps them train their thinking to be broader and faster.
Visual Identity & Branding
Tping was inspired by the everyday object of toilet paper, and we focused on expressing this concept in a clear and intuitive way.
We used white, the primary color of toilet paper, as the base color and incorporated vibrant, pop accent colors into the palette to create a friendly and youthful atmosphere — a deliberate choice, as the brand targets a younger demographic.
The logo design was directly drawn from the rounded shape of a toilet paper roll, while the motion identity playfully captured moments like the paper being torn off or unrolling. Through these intuitive and engaging visual elements, Tping was shaped into a brand that is not just functional but also fun, approachable, and full of personality.
UI
We brought in highlight neon colors inspired by our branding palette and applied the simple “pull and tear” system of toilet paper to the UI design. While it was important to make the app feel fun and engaging, our top priority was to create a clear interface that helps users organize and expand their ideas effortlessly. Since the app involves a lot of reading and writing, we carefully selected a highly legible typeface to ensure a smooth and focused user experience.
Visual Storytelling
We structured the Tping video to deliver its core message with humor and friendliness. Tping is an idea-training app inspired by toilet paper, designed to help users smoothly unravel their thoughts and unlock creativity in a fun, intuitive way. From the name and icon to the UI and overall visual direction, every element consistently reflects the toilet paper concept, creating a lighthearted and engaging experience for users.
In particular, we drew inspiration from traditional idea-generation techniques like SCAMPER and the Dadaist cut-out method, incorporating these as key features within the app. Rather than simply explaining the app’s functions or technical capabilities, we focused on visually communicating the creative process and the psychological enjoyment Tping offers. Through this approach, we positioned Tping not just as another productivity tool but as a charming, creativity-boosting brand that users can easily incorporate into their daily lives. The video amplifies this brand message, inviting viewers to engage and feel the excitement of “I want to try this!” in a playful, accessible atmosphere.
